How a Wi-Fi QR code works

A Wi-Fi QR code stores a structured network payload containing the SSID, security type, and password when one is required. A compatible phone can read those details and offer to join the network without manual typing.

The code is static: it contains the details present when it was generated and does not rely on a BrowserPine redirect or hosted profile after download. If the network name, security, or password changes, create a new code.

WPA/WPA2, WEP, and open networks

Choose WPA/WPA2 for networks that use the widely supported Wi-Fi QR token T:WPA. WEP is available for older networks, while Open network uses T:nopass and does not include a password field.

This tool does not invent a separate WPA3 token. Scanner behavior for WPA3 networks varies, so use the security choice that matches the network and test the finished code with the devices that need to join.

Hidden networks and compatible scanning

Enable Hidden network to add the standard H:true field. The network name is still encoded because a scanner needs it to attempt a connection, even when the SSID is not broadcast normally.

Many current phones recognize Wi-Fi QR payloads through their camera or QR scanner, but operating-system and device support can vary. Keep the quiet zone clear and test the downloaded code before printing or sharing it broadly.

Protect the password and downloaded code

Generation happens locally in the browser, and the password is hidden by default in the form and omitted from the visible result summary. Start over clears the sensitive fields and generated download links from the page.

The QR image itself contains the credentials needed to join the network. Anyone who can scan or access the downloaded PNG or SVG may be able to recover those details, so share and store the file as carefully as the password.

Are my Wi-Fi name and password uploaded?

No. The Wi-Fi payload and QR image are generated locally in your browser and are not uploaded to a BrowserPine processing server.

Can a phone join Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code?

Many current phones can recognize a compatible Wi-Fi QR payload and offer to join the network. Support can vary by device, operating system, camera app, and network configuration.

Which Wi-Fi security types are supported?

The generator supports WPA/WPA2 with T:WPA, WEP with T:WEP, and open networks with T:nopass. It does not create a separate, nonstandard WPA3 token.

Can I create a QR code for a hidden Wi-Fi network?

Yes. Enable Hidden network to encode H:true along with the SSID and other selected network details.

Is the password visible on the result card?

No. The result confirms whether a password is included but does not display its value. The password remains encoded inside the QR image so compatible scanners can use it.

What happens to special characters in the SSID or password?

Backslashes, semicolons, commas, quotation marks, and colons are escaped once using the interoperable Wi-Fi QR payload syntax so scanners can distinguish them from field separators.

Why does my Wi-Fi QR code not scan?

Check the exact network name, password, and security choice, then use dark foreground modules on a light background and keep the quiet zone unobstructed. Device support can also vary.

Does a Wi-Fi QR code expire?

The static QR code has no BrowserPine expiration. It stops being useful when the network details change or when a scanning device does not support the encoded configuration.
