Add Page Numbers to PDF

Number every page, only odd or even pages, or enter custom pages and ranges such as 1, 3, 5-7. Page numbers in the controls are one-based, duplicates are included once, and invalid or out-of-range input is rejected before processing.

Displayed numbering advances only across the selected source pages. If pages 3-5 are selected and numbering starts at 1, source pages 3, 4, and 5 receive 1, 2, and 3 rather than their physical page indices.

Six placements cover the top-left, top-center, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, and bottom-right of the visible page area. Center and right alignment use measured Helvetica text width rather than estimated character counts.

Use a font size from 8 to 36 points, a margin from 8 to 72 points, a native text-color picker, and an optional 24-character basic-text prefix. The lightweight page shape is a placement guide only; it is not a rendered preview of your PDF.

Placement is calculated in the reader’s visible CropBox space and mapped back into PDF coordinates. Existing 0, 90, 180, and 270 degree page rotations are preserved while the added number remains upright in the expected visual position.

Portrait, landscape, mixed-size, offset CropBox, and unusual-size pages keep their existing MediaBox, CropBox, and rotation values. Text that cannot fit safely with the selected prefix, size, and margin is rejected instead of being clipped intentionally.

Page numbers are drawn as standard Helvetica PDF text without rasterizing existing pages. The tool does not intentionally reduce embedded image resolution or turn existing text and vector graphics into pixels.

Each Apply starts from the original selected file, so changing settings and regenerating does not stack duplicate number layers. Editing a PDF invalidates existing digital signatures, and advanced forms, bookmarks, attachments, internal links, or specialized metadata may not always survive perfectly.
