How to split a PDF

Choose one PDF

Add a document with up to 500 pages and 50 MiB. Its structure and page count are checked locally before split controls appear.

Three ways to divide a document

Page-range mode creates a separate PDF for each output group you define. A group can contain a page, a continuous range, or a comma-separated selection such as 1-3, 7, 9-10. Different output groups may overlap, while repeated pages inside one group are normalized to a single copy in source-page order.

Every page mode creates one single-page PDF per source page. Every N pages mode creates consecutive groups of the chosen size, with a smaller final group when the page count is not evenly divisible.

Page content is copied, not rasterized

Split PDF copies selected page objects into new documents rather than rendering pages as images. Standard text, vector graphics, embedded images, page dimensions, CropBoxes, MediaBoxes, and stored rotation are preserved where the source PDF structure allows.

Because there is no image conversion step, the tool does not intentionally lower page resolution. Output size may still differ from the source because each result receives its own PDF structure and required resources.

Split PDF compared with Extract PDF Pages

Use Split PDF when you want to divide one document into several output files in a single operation, such as chapters, individual pages, or fixed-size batches.

The Extract PDF Pages tool has a different focus: choosing a page selection and creating one extracted document. Split PDF can make a single output too, but its interface is designed around multiple independently downloadable results.

Practical browser safeguards

The source PDF is limited to 50 MiB and 500 pages. One operation can create up to 100 PDFs with a combined output limit of 150 MiB, which helps keep browser memory and download handling predictable.

Outputs are generated sequentially in a dedicated worker and transferred back one at a time. Canceling stops that worker, while the original PDF and current settings remain available for a fresh attempt.

Split PDF FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. This Split PDF tool reads, copies, saves, and verifies the document locally in your browser. The selected PDF is not uploaded to a processing server.

Can page ranges overlap?

Yes. Separate output groups may contain some of the same source pages. Repeated pages within one output group are included once and returned in ascending source-page order.

Can I create one PDF for every page?

Yes, when the source has no more than 100 pages. You can also create consecutive files every N pages or define up to 100 custom page-range outputs.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?

No. Password-protected and encrypted PDFs are rejected. This tool does not request, store, bypass, or remove document passwords.

Does splitting reduce PDF quality?

The tool copies PDF pages without rasterizing them, so it does not intentionally lower image resolution or turn text and vectors into pixels.

Will bookmarks, forms, and signatures be preserved?

Not always. Advanced features such as bookmarks, internal links, forms, attachments, specialized metadata, and signatures may not survive splitting perfectly. Any document change invalidates an existing digital signature.

What are the Split PDF limits?

The source can be up to 50 MiB and 500 pages. One split can create up to 100 output PDFs, and their combined size must remain within 150 MiB.
