HEIC to PNG Converter

Create PNG copies of your HEIC or HEIF still photos inside your browser. PNG preserves the decoded pixels without another lossy encoding step and retains supported transparency.

HEIC to PNG converter

Choose still HEIC or HEIF photos. Convert a batch locally, review the results, and download individually or as a ZIP.

What this conversion keeps and changes

Single still photos only. Image sequences and collections with multiple independent images are rejected. The HEIC decoder applies supported image rotation and mirroring; review the preview before downloading.

Outputs are standard 8-bit images. Camera metadata, GPS tags, depth data, HDR information and Live Photo motion are not copied. Keep your originals. Converted files are limited to 200 MB in total per batch; download and clear results before processing more.

The decoder is downloaded from this site on first conversion. Your photos stay on your device. Decoder license and source information.

Three simple steps

How to turn a HEIC photo into PNG

Select HEIC or HEIF still images

Add a single photo or a batch within the displayed limits. The converter checks the file contents before loading the decoder.

Start local PNG conversion

Convert each photo sequentially. PNG uses lossless encoding, so there is no JPEG-style quality slider and no background fill.

Check the size and download

Review the preview, dimensions and PNG file size. Save individual images or download all successful results as a ZIP.

When PNG is the useful output

PNG is useful when an editor or workflow requires it, when decoded transparency must remain transparent, or when you want to avoid adding JPEG compression artifacts during conversion.

For ordinary photo sharing or a form with a small size limit, JPG is often a more practical choice. You can use the related HEIC to JPG converter and choose a quality setting instead.

Lossless encoding does not restore missing detail

The PNG stores the standard 8-bit pixels produced by the HEIC decoder without another lossy encoding step. It cannot recover detail lost when the original HEIC was created, and it does not preserve the original HDR color information.

Supported transparency remains transparent. Converting to PNG does not remove an opaque background. Camera metadata, GPS tags, depth data and Live Photo motion are not copied to the result.

Why a PNG photo may be much larger

HEIC is efficient at compressing photographs. A PNG of the same visible image can be substantially larger, even though its dimensions have not increased. A larger file is not automatically a sign of better image quality.

The input queue allows 20 files, 25 MB per file and 100 MB total, with a 40-megapixel and 16,384-pixel-per-side limit. Generated outputs have a separate 200 MB total limit. Download completed files and clear the queue before processing another large batch.

Common questions

HEIC to PNG FAQ

Does HEIC to PNG run without uploading files?

Yes. Your browser downloads the decoder and processes your selected photos locally. No photo-processing upload or account is required.

Does PNG preserve HEIC transparency?

The converter retains the transparency exposed by the decoder. Opaque backgrounds remain opaque; this is not a background-removal tool.

Will PNG preserve all HEIC quality and metadata?

No. PNG avoids another lossy encoding step for decoded pixels, but original HDR data, camera metadata, GPS information and depth data are not retained. Keep your original HEIC photos.

Why is there no quality slider?

PNG encoding is lossless. A JPEG-style quality percentage would not control the PNG output meaningfully, so the converter does not show one.

Can I download all converted PNGs together?

Yes. After conversion, choose Download all as ZIP. Only successfully converted images are included, and individual downloads remain available.

Can the converter export an entire Live Photo or image sequence?

No. It supports single still images. Timed sequences and collections with multiple independent images are rejected, and Live Photo motion is not exported.
