Pixel dimensions are useful when a website, form, or design specifies an exact width or height. With aspect ratio locked, the dimension you edit becomes the target and the other dimension is calculated independently from each source image.
Percentage mode scales both dimensions relative to the original. A 50% resize turns a 2,000 × 1,000 image into 1,000 × 500, while mixed files keep their own proportions and starting sizes.
An image aspect ratio is the relationship between its width and height. Keeping it locked preserves the original shape, so circles remain circular and people do not look unnaturally wide or narrow.
You can unlock the ratio when exact width and height values matter more than the original proportions. That intentionally reshapes the image rather than cropping it.
Reducing pixel dimensions often produces a smaller file because fewer pixels need to be stored, but the result also depends on format, image detail, and the selected JPG or WebP quality. This tool does not promise that every output will use fewer bytes.
Enlarging creates more pixels but cannot recover detail that was not present in the source. “Do not enlarge images” is enabled by default so an oversized request keeps that file at its original dimensions unless you intentionally allow upscaling.
JPG and WebP results use the quality setting, while PNG output remains lossless and has no artificial quality control. The resizer never silently changes one supported format into another.
PNG and WebP alpha transparency is preserved. Static images are supported; animated PNG and WebP files are rejected because exporting only one frame would lose their animation.
