AVIF is a modern image format designed to store detailed images efficiently. PNG is a widely supported lossless format often used for graphics, interface assets, screenshots, and images that need an alpha channel.
Converting to PNG preserves the pixels exposed by the browser decoder without another lossy encoding step. It cannot restore detail or color information that was not present in the AVIF source.
Both AVIF and PNG can represent alpha transparency. Fully transparent, semi-transparent, and opaque pixels are drawn into a transparent canvas and encoded as PNG without a solid background.
This is format conversion, not background removal. Pixels that are already opaque remain opaque, and the tool does not try to identify or erase an image background.
PNG uses lossless encoding and may be significantly larger than the AVIF source. A larger result is expected for many photographs and is not treated as a conversion error.
AVIF decoding depends on support built into your browser. Current browsers commonly handle static AVIF images, while older browsers or uncommon AVIF profiles may be rejected with a compatibility message. Animated AVIF image sequences are not supported.

Yes. Fully transparent and semi-transparent pixels remain transparent in the PNG as accurately as the browser exposes the decoded alpha channel.
AVIF can compress images very efficiently, while PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly. A substantial size increase is normal, especially for photographs.
No. PNG avoids another lossy encoding step, but it cannot recover detail or color information missing from the original AVIF.
PNG output is lossless and does not use a JPEG-style quality percentage. A quality slider would not accurately describe this conversion.
No. AVIF image sequences identified by the animation file-type brand are rejected instead of silently exporting only one frame.
Yes. You can queue up to 20 valid static AVIF files. They are converted one at a time to keep peak memory use more predictable.
