JPG, JPEG, and PNG are different formats
JPG and JPEG are two names for the same image format. JPEG compression is commonly used for photographs because it can create relatively small files, but it removes some image information when the source is encoded.
PNG uses lossless compression. Converting an existing JPEG to PNG prevents another lossy JPEG encoding step, but it cannot restore detail or quality that was already discarded in the original JPG or JPEG file.
PNG may be larger, and orientation is preserved
PNG often needs more storage than JPEG for photographic images because it preserves the decoded pixels losslessly. Choose PNG when a workflow requires that format, not as a way to make an existing JPEG sharper.
Modern browser decoding applies supported JPEG orientation metadata before the image is drawn. The generated PNG follows that displayed orientation and keeps the resulting width and height.

Are JPG and JPEG the same format?
Yes. The .jpg and .jpeg extensions refer to the same JPEG image format, and this converter accepts both when the file contents are valid JPEG data.
Are my JPEG images uploaded?
No. Validation and conversion run locally in your browser with browser image and canvas APIs. Selected files are not uploaded to our server.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
No. PNG avoids another lossy encoding step, but it cannot recover detail that JPEG compression already removed from the source image.
Why can the PNG be larger than the JPG?
PNG stores the decoded pixels losslessly, while JPEG is designed to compress photographs more aggressively. A larger PNG is normal for many photographic sources.
Will the PNG keep the JPEG dimensions and orientation?
Yes. The PNG uses the dimensions and visual orientation produced by the browser decoder, including supported JPEG orientation metadata.
Can I convert multiple JPG and JPEG files together?
