Clicking or tapping the preview samples the corresponding pixel from the full source image, even when the preview has been scaled to fit the screen. The selected color is shown as a swatch and hexadecimal value, and you can replace it with the standard color picker.
Tolerance controls how similar another pixel must be to the selected color. At 0, only an exact RGB match is removed. Higher values accept a wider color distance, which helps with shadows, antialiasing, and small shade variations around a mostly uniform background.
White logo canvases and simple product backgrounds are good candidates: sample a clean white area, start with a low tolerance, and increase it only until the remaining background disappears. The same workflow can make a flat black background transparent.
Green-screen and blue-screen graphics can also work well when the screen color is reasonably even. Sample the backdrop rather than the subject, then check the preview carefully for clothing, logos, or details that share a similar color.
This tool removes matching colors throughout the image; it does not identify a person, product, hair, animal, or object. A matching shade inside the foreground can therefore become transparent along with the background.
Busy photographic scenes, soft hair edges, reflections, and backgrounds with many unrelated colors usually need subject-aware editing. This page deliberately uses predictable color matching rather than claiming automatic or AI background removal.
The result is always a lossless PNG because JPG cannot store transparency and browser AVIF encoding is not dependable. Original width and height are preserved, existing transparent or semi-transparent non-matching pixels keep their alpha, and only matching pixels receive zero alpha.
A smaller pixel copy keeps tolerance previews responsive. Full-resolution pixels are read and changed only after you select Apply transparency, with all work staying inside the browser. A transparent PNG can be larger than its source because the purpose is alpha support, not compression.

Sample a clean white part of the background and begin with a low tolerance. Increase it gradually until off-white edge shades disappear without removing important light-colored foreground details.
Yes. Select a black background pixel and adjust tolerance for nearby dark shades. Black or dark details elsewhere in the image may also be removed when they fall within the same range.
Tolerance widens the accepted RGB color distance. Zero removes exact matches only; larger values include increasingly different shades, so use the lowest value that clears the intended background.
The tool matches color throughout the entire image rather than detecting a subject. Foreground pixels close to the chosen background color can therefore become transparent too; lower the tolerance or select a more specific color.
It can remove a chosen color from a photo, but it is designed for solid or similar-color backgrounds. It does not use AI segmentation and cannot reliably isolate subjects from busy, multicolor scenes.
Every result is a PNG with image/png MIME and a -transparent.png filename. PNG provides dependable lossless alpha transparency, although its file size may exceed the original.
Yes. Existing fully transparent pixels remain transparent, and non-matching semi-transparent pixels retain their decoded alpha. Matching pixels become fully transparent.
