AVIF is a modern image format that can store high-quality images efficiently. JPG has a much longer history and remains compatible with many applications, document workflows, websites, and devices that may not accept AVIF.
JPG uses lossy compression. Converting changes the container and encoding but cannot improve detail already present in the AVIF source. The output keeps the browser-decoded pixel dimensions and visible result as closely as practical.
This tool relies on the AVIF decoder built into your browser. Current browsers commonly support still AVIF images, but older browsers and some uncommon AVIF profiles may not decode. When decoding is unavailable, the file stays on your device and the converter reports the problem.
Only static AVIF images are supported. AVIF image sequences identified by the animation file-type brand are rejected instead of silently converting a single frame.
AVIF can contain fully or partially transparent pixels, while JPG cannot. The converter blends those pixels onto white by default, or onto another background color you choose before encoding.
Higher JPEG quality usually retains more visible detail but can create a larger file. Even quality 100 remains lossy, and the JPG is not guaranteed to be smaller than the AVIF because the formats compress image data differently.

The converter uses the AVIF decoder included with your browser. An older browser or an unsupported AVIF profile may fail even when the file has a valid AVIF container.
No. It checks the AVIF file-type brands and rejects AV1 image sequences so that an animation is not silently reduced to one frame.
Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are blended onto your selected background color before JPEG encoding. White is used by default because JPG cannot store transparency.
Quality 90 is a practical default. Lower settings can reduce file size but may add visible artifacts, while 100 remains lossy and may create a much larger file.
No. Conversion can improve compatibility, but it cannot restore or add detail that is not present in the original AVIF image.
Yes. You can queue up to 20 valid static AVIF files. They are processed one at a time to keep peak memory use more predictable.
